Lagos to Adopt GIS for Land Use Charge Billing

The Lagos State Government has announced that it will adopt a state-of-the-art Geographic Information System (GIS) for mapping and identification of properties in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the billing and payment of Land Use Charge (LUC) in the state.

The Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, disclosed this at a forum on Land Use Charge Matters held in Alausa on Monday. He said that the innovative system would generate bills for everyone using the valuation methodology which would determine the location and the market value of all the properties in Lagos State.

The Commissioner appealed to all property owners to regularise their property papers as soon as possible, noting that the government was committed to fulfilling its social contract with Lagosians through the provision of reliable and sufficient infrastructure across the state.In his address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Abdulkabir Ogungbo, said the government would continue to touch citizen with the provision of social amenities.The adoption of GIS for LUC billing is a significant development, as it will help to ensure that all property owners are billed fairly and accurately.

It will also make it easier for property owners to pay their LUC bills, as they will be able to do so online or through other convenient channels.The government is expected to roll out the new GIS-based LUC billing system in December 2023.
