Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that the Red Line Rail Project is scheduled to launch in December 2023. The governor made the announcement during an inspection tour of the project on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
“I have directed the contractor handling the multi-million dollar Red Rail Line project to deliver the job by December 2023,” said Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Red Line Rail Project is a 37-kilometer rail line that will connect Agbado in Ogun State to Marina in Lagos Island. The project is expected to have a significant impact on transportation in Lagos, reducing travel time and making it easier for people to get around the city.

Sanwo-Olu also announced that the Yaba and Ikeja-Along Flyovers, which are part of the Red Line Rail Project, will be opened to vehicular traffic in October 2023.
The governor directed the contractor handling the project to deliver the job by December 2023 and issued a two-day ultimatum to traders along the Agege rail line to vacate within two days or be forced to do so.
The Red Line Rail Project is one of the several infrastructure projects that the Lagos State government is undertaking to improve transportation in the state. Other projects include the Blue Line Rail Project, the Green Line Rail Project, and the Yellow Line Rail Project.
The completion of the Red Line Rail Project is expected to be a major boost for the Lagos State government’s efforts to improve transportation in the state. The project will provide a fast and efficient way for people to travel within Lagos and will help to reduce traffic congestion.
