In a bid to tackle the persistent housing deficit in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called for a concerted effort between the government and the private sector. The governor emphasized this collaborative approach during the inauguration of the Greenwich Gardens Housing Estate, an ambitious 101-unit project located in Ajelogo, within the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state.

Comprising 66 two-bedroom flats, 20 three-bedroom terraces, 14 three-bedroom semi-detached houses, one four-bedroom detached house, and 65 residential plots under the sites and service scheme, Greenwich Gardens is a joint initiative between the Dele Oshinowo-led administration in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA and private sector partners.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for private sector involvement in housing development. He emphasized the importance of partnerships with developers to ensure the provision of decent and affordable housing options for residents in Lagos.

“We are determined to complete all ongoing housing projects and significantly expand on the 19 completed housing schemes,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated. These completed projects, according to him, are already serving as comfortable homes for the state’s residents.

The governor highlighted the significance of the Greenwich Gardens Housing Estate, describing it as a pivotal addition to the housing stock of Lagos. He noted the project’s contribution to addressing the urban housing deficit, providing more livable communities, and stimulating economic activities within the Agboyi-Ketu community.

Acknowledging the challenges of housing in the state, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the adoption of a global housing policy that allows individuals to become homeowners through an inclusive and convenient financing system based on their income. He urged private investors to explore the vast opportunities available in the Lagos housing sector, given the increasing population and demand for decent and affordable shelter.

Commending the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mr. Dele Oshinowo, and the entire leadership for completing the Greenwich Gardens Housing Estate, Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged other council chairmen to prioritize housing projects in their respective local governments and LCDAs.
