FCT Water Board To Cut Off 30,000 Households

The FCT Water Board is set to begin the disconnection of over thirty thousand (30,000) of its customers due to lack of payment of water bills.

The acting General Manager of the Board, Mr. Daniel Salka, made this known during an emergency meeting with Commercial Officers at the Headquarters of the Board in Area 3, Garki-Abuja, Friday.

Salka said this action has become necessary because the Board has to recover all its debts from customers who have been enjoying interrupted water supply but are not ready to be responsive.

The General Manager said a situation whereby only fifteen thousand (15,000) out of fifty thousand (50,000) customers are paying bills was unacceptable.

He, therefore, charged the staff to ensure compliance so as to increase the revenue base of the Board as the government needs such funds to continue to provide the required services.

The General Manager challenged the staff to wake up to their responsibility by ensuring no further delay in meter reading and transmission of the same to the billing office to ensure early printing of bills.

He directed all the commercial officers to ensure early distribution of water bills to customers to make sure at least eighty percent (80%) revenue is collected to justify their pay.

Salka reiterated that he would personally lead the distribution of bills to customers in the Territory; urging the various Area Managers to do the needful in ensuring total compliance with the new revenue drive in their respective Area offices.

Responding on behalf of all the Commercial Officers of FCT Water Board, the Head of Commerce Department, Mallam Aliyu Maradun, assured the acting General Manager of compliance to the new directive to increase the revenue drive, while appealing for all the necessary support that would assist the Commercial Department hit the ground running in raising the revenue profile of the Board to unprecedented heights.
