The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the vandalism of its Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo 132KV Transmission Line 1, disrupting power supply in parts of Abuja.
According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Sunday, causing a sudden loss of bulk power supply on the line.
“Early morning investigations by TCN linesmen revealed a portion of the line route between Tower 23 and Tower 25 had been vandalized,” Mbah said. “The perpetrators also stole conductors, leading to a power outage at Kukwaba Transmission Substation.”

TCN has responded by temporarily restoring power to the affected area by rerouting supply through the Apo Substation. However, permanent restoration requires repairs to the vandalized section of the line.
“We are currently making arrangements to repair the affected sector and fully restore service as soon as possible,” Mbah stated.

The incident highlights the growing challenge of vandalism on critical infrastructure in Nigeria. Such attacks not only disrupt essential services but also cause significant economic losses.
TCN has urged the public to report suspicious activity around transmission lines and substations to help deter future incidents.
