Over 10,000 residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and members of civil society groups stormed the National Assembly complex in Abuja yesterday, calling for the resignation of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the FCT.
The protesters, united under the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability, accused Wike of “incompetence,” “lack of vision,” and involvement in questionable land allocation practices.
Adamu Matazu, convener of the group, condemned Wike’s leadership, stating, “The FCT has become an epicenter of controversy due to the misguided actions of Wike, undermining President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and casting doubt on the Federal Government’s credibility.”

Matazu demanded Wike’s immediate resignation, investigation, and prosecution, accusing him of inefficiency and failing to live up to the vision of President Tinubu’s administration. He further criticized Wike’s combative and condescending communication style, describing him as “a deliberate punishment sent to the FCT by Tinubu.”
The coalition urged President Tinubu to take decisive action against Wike’s “excesses” to restore trust and ensure the smooth functioning of the FCT.
