Makinde Approves Prince Akeem Owoade as New Alaafin of Oyo

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally approved the selection of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo, ending months of anticipation following the demise of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the governor’s decision follows extensive consultations and divinations, which led to the Oyomesi’s recommendation of Prince Owoade for the revered throne.

Speaking on the development, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo, confirmed that the announcement resolves all social and legal disputes surrounding the succession process.

He further urged the people of Oyo State to unite in celebrating the historic occasion and to lend their support to the new monarch.

The Commissioner for Information expressed hope that the reign of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade would usher in an era of peace, prosperity, and unity for the Oyo Kingdom.

The approval marks a significant milestone in the state’s traditional leadership, affirming the cultural heritage and continuity of the Alaafin dynasty.
