AMAC Chairman Unveils ₦25.65 Billion 2025 Budget for Sustainable Development
The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has proposed a budget of ₦25,651,311,142 for the 2025 fiscal year, aimed at accelerating grassroots development and fulfilling campaign promises.
Presenting the budget, tagged “Budget for Sustainable Development,” on Tuesday at the Legislative Council in Area 10, Garki I District, Abuja, Maikalangu noted that the proposal represents a 10 percent increase from the 2024 budget.
The budget comprises ₦11.86 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦13.79 billion for capital expenditure. The recurrent expenditure is further broken down into ₦4.66 billion for personnel costs and ₦7.2 billion for overhead costs. On the capital side, ₦1.21 billion is earmarked for ongoing projects, ₦11.44 billion for new projects, and ₦1.14 billion for debt servicing.
The increase, the Chairman explained, was driven by provisions for the payment of the new minimum wage to the council’s workforce.
Maikalangu emphasized that the 2025 budget would prioritize critical areas such as quality primary education, healthcare delivery, grassroots infrastructure development, empowerment programs, and the completion of ongoing projects.
Additionally, the budget includes the procurement of 45 vehicles for security agencies operating within AMAC, underscoring the council’s commitment to enhancing security in the area.
The Chairman expressed confidence that the proposed spending plan would consolidate the council’s development agenda and improve the quality of life for residents.
