4,974 Land Titles Revoked: PDP, CBN, NNPC Among Affected Owners

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has revoked 4,974 land titles, affecting a mix of government institutions, private organizations, and individuals.

Among the affected owners are the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), and several other entities.

Addressing journalists, the FCT Director of Lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, dismissed claims by the PDP that the revocation exercise was politically motivated. He clarified that only one property, Plot 243 in the Central Area, is officially owned by the PDP out of the thousands affected.

He further explained that the second property associated with the PDP, which serves as its secretariat, actually belongs to Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, who purchased it from Wadata Enterprises Nigeria Limited.

According to Nwankwoeze, the PDP’s Central Area property had accumulated ₦7,603,504.31 in unpaid ground rent over 20 years, while Senator Kurfi owed ₦2,848,173.36 for 28 years of ground rent on Plot 1970, Wuse I (Wadata Plaza).

The director also revealed that several government agencies and institutions were impacted by the revocation, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Kaduna and Borno State Governments.

Additionally, private organizations and thousands of individuals were affected by the revocation. The FCT Administration has maintained that the exercise was conducted strictly in line with land regulations and was not targeted at any specific political party or entity.
